NORWALK, CA, June 26, 2018 - In hopes of combating food insecurity, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market has launched their 8th Annual Independence from Hunger Food Drive. Spanning from June 27 - July 31, the campaign collects food and cash donations in store at their 300 locations nationwide. The donations that they receive will be distributed directly to local food agencies across the country.
During the summer when school is out, many families lose access to school supported food programs, creating an increased risk for food insecurity. This leads many families struggling to bring food into their mouths.
In fact, according to the most recent USDA data reports, at least 41.2 million people live in food insecure households. That includes 12.9 million children (USDA, Household Food Security in the United States in 2016).
